Smart Pedestrian Crossings

Calvià embraces technology to enhance pedestrian safety

The municipality of Calvià, in Mallorca, is characterized by high urban mobility and intense tourist activity, factors that make it essential to strengthen road safety in pedestrian environments. In this context, the implementation of technological solutions that improve visibility and reduce risk at crossings becomes a key element in protecting pedestrians and drivers, especially at unsignalized crossings and in shared-traffic areas.

To address this need, Dinycon has developed and implemented in Calvià a smart pedestrian crossing solution based on presence-detection sensors and LED light signaling, both horizontal and vertical. The system is automatically activated when pedestrians are crossing and is managed through an IoT node connected to a central server via 3G/4G networks, enabling remote management and integration with other platforms. This initiative enhances pedestrian safety and is fully aligned with the municipality’s smart city strategies.

Advantages and Benefits

  • Improved road safety at pedestrian crossings

  • Automation of driver warning alerts

  • Compatible with multiple technologies and providers

  • Accident reduction

The implementation of smart pedestrian crossings and speed awareness (pedagogical) radars in Calvià has represented a significant advance in road safety. Thanks to this technology, we have managed to substantially reduce risk at critical points and increase peace of mind for both pedestrians and drivers.
