Undertow current detection system to reduce drowning on monitored and unmonitored beachesUndertow current detection system to reduce drowning at beaches
Safer Beaches, Protected Lives
Its objective is to increase beach safety by early detection of undertow currents. The aim is to reduce the number of drownings, both on monitored and unmonitored beaches, by providing support and alerting beach guards and users to these dangerous situations.
RESACOFF is a system designed to improve safety on beaches and coastal areas through continuous monitoring with surveillance cameras. This system uses a deep learning algorithm specifically trained to identify rip currents from the images captured by the cameras. The main objective of RESACOFF is to prevent accidents and drowning by detecting these dangerous currents, enabling it to effectively communicate risk areas to swimmers and surfers to reduce the likelihood of incidents in the water.

RESAC-OFF implementation
- Study of the morphology of the beach to determine the optimal points for the installation of cameras and sensors.
- Installation of the surveillance system with strategically selected viewing angles.
- Configuration and calibration of the software, ensuring that the algorithms are adapted to the specific conditions of the environment.
- Functional tests and adjustments, verifying the accuracy of the detections and the correct emission of alerts.
