Usurbil revolutionizes access control with license plate recognition technology

The municipality of Usurbil has taken a step forward in the modernization of traffic management with the implementation of the innovative Matrikula bidezko sarbide kontrola system. This project, carried out by the Donostia-based company Dinycon, has transformed access control in the town, offering an efficient, secure and technologically advanced solution.

Prior to the implementation of this system, Usurbil faced difficulties in regulating the entry of vehicles into the Kalezar neighborhood. The lack of an efficient mechanism to identify license plates caused improper access and generated inconveniences for the local community.

To solve this problem, an automatic license plate recognition (ANPR) system was installed, consisting of fixed bullet cameras with artificial intelligence algorithms, control traffic lights and access management modules. Thanks to this infrastructure, it is now possible to monitor accesses in real time and make automatic decisions on vehicle entry.

System operation

The mechanism is simple but effective. When a vehicle approaches the checkpoint, the cameras capture its license plate and compare it with the authorized database. If the vehicle is registered, the traffic light changes to green, allowing passage. Otherwise, the traffic light remains red and a proposed sanction is generated for the unauthorized driver.

Community benefits

The implementation of this system has brought multiple advantages for Usurbil:

  • Improved access control, ensuring that only authorized vehicles enter the area.
  • Real-time surveillance, facilitating a rapid response to any incident.
  • Maintenance optimization, reducing costs and improving operational management.
  • Generation of specific reports, allowing detailed traffic analysis.
  • Economic sustainability, thanks to an automated system that reduces the need for manual intervention.

This project marks a milestone in urban traffic management in Usurbil, serving as a model for other localities seeking to modernize their access control systems. With state-of-the-art technology and efficient operation, the city has achieved a safer and more orderly environment for its citizens.
