Parking management Aranda de Duero
EYSA, DINYCON AND THE TOWN COUNCIL OF ARANDA DE DUERO JOIN FORCES TO IMPROVE THE MANAGEMENT OF THE TOWNS PARKING FACILITIES.
On past 1st November, a system of vehicle detection and real-time information on the availability of free parking spaces in the streets of the town was put into operation.
Aranda de Duero is the capital of the Ribera del Duero region. It has 32,535 inhabitants (2017) and is the third most populated municipality in Castilla y León.
It is also home to the headquarters of the Leche Pascual Group and Glaxo Wellcome (GlaxoSmithKline), the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the Protected Geographical Indication of Suckling Lamb of Castilla y León and the Ribera del Duero Tourist Consortium, and during the summer the “Villa de Aranda” International Guitar Festival and Competition (towards the end of July) and the Sonorama-Ribera Music Festival (mid-August) are held in this municipality.
All this makes it a point where parking space management is necessary.
In the project, 272 sensors were installed in blue zone parking spaces. These sensors send information on the status of the parking spaces (free/occupied) wirelessly to a remote server, which monitors the overall situation and sends the number of free spaces to several panels located at strategic points in the city, so that the driver can go directly to the area with free spaces.
With all this new adaptation of the squares, Aranda de Duero begins to transform itself into a Smart City.
The benefits for users (drivers, pedestrians, citizens and visitors) are:
- Reduced time spent in the vehicle: parking search is speeded up, making life more convenient and helping to plan journeys.
- Reduced driver and pedestrian stress: traffic and noise in the city are reduced.
- Lower fuel costs.
For the city mobility managers, the benefits are:
- Improved mobility: reduced congestion, noise and traffic.
- Anticipation of possible saturation: this will facilitate decision making to avoid such a situation.
- Improving the image of the city.
Other favourable effects:
- Improvement of the environment: reduction of pollution and noise.
- Stimulation of local commerce: reducing the time it takes to access them.
- Optimisation of parking spaces.
- Control of regulated parking.
